Winner Announced for World Proposal Championships!
Proposal Submitted by Boat People SOS Wins Top Prize of $5,000
Metasoft Systems Inc. is pleased to announce the grand prize winner of the 2007 World Proposal Championships. The winning proposal, submitted by Boat People SOS, demonstrated exemplary grant writing skill, and was chosen from hundreds of proposals submitted by organizations from around the world, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Boat People SOS will be awarded the $5,000 grand prize, and the remaining finalists will be included in the world’s largest online showcase of winning proposals, at www.bigdatabase.com/wpc.
In addition to the winning proposal submitted by Boat People SOS, the other top proposals that rounded out the top three were Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless and Selkirk College.
The judging panel members were all in agreement in support of the winning proposal. Bill Barratt, chair of the judging committee, notes, “All of the finalist proposals were very well written. But the proposal submitted by Boat People SOS stood out above the rest for its compelling argument and inspired writing—it was truly impressive work. And I think I speak for all of our judges when I say that we could not be more pleased to be part of such a great initiative to recognize the very best in grant writing.”
The judging panel included some of the top professionals and thought leaders from the non-profit sector, with decades of experience shared between them. The judges included:
- Heidi K. Frederick, Assistant Director of Research, Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University
- Karin Neuenschwander, Foundation Relations Development Manager, Washington State University Foundation
- Morris W. Price, Jr., National Program Officer, Gill Foundation
- Tom Riglar, Manager, Personal Philanthropy, United Way of the Lower Mainland
- Kathleen Warren, Director, Foundation Relations, Washington State University Foundation

Finalists Selected for World Proposal Championships!
Metasoft Systems Inc. is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2007 World Proposal Championships.
The top ten finalists were chosen from hundreds of proposals submitted by organizations from around the world,
including the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
The World Proposal Championships aim to recognize and promote proposal writing excellence, and to help fundraisers learn,
by example, what it takes to create a winning proposal. The top ten finalists include successful proposals from a wide
variety of sectors, including social and human services, education, healthcare, and the environment.
The finalists include:

- ForestEthics
- MoCreebec Non-Profit Development Corp (MacLeod Farley & Assoc.)
- New York City Outward Bound
- Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless
- Northern Westchester Shelter
- Selkirk College
- Snow Leopard Trust
- University of Missouri-Kansas City
- VoicePrint (NBRS)
The finalists will go through the next round of judging, resulting in the winning proposal being awarded the $5,000 grand prize,
and the top proposals showcased online. The winner will be announced at the end of February.

World Proposal Championships Entries Closed, Judging Underway
The closing date for the 2007 World Proposal Championships has passed, and the response to the call for entries was extraordinary. Hundreds of submissions were received from organizations in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. We would like to extend our thanks to the hundreds of organizations that submitted their successful proposals to the Championships, and a special thanks to the judging panel for lending their expertise to the judging process.
Judging has now begun in earnest, and the panel, chaired by Bill Barratt, is busy reviewing the hundreds of entries received. “I’m happy to report that the judging process is presenting a great challenge,” noted Mr. Barratt. “We are impressed with the quality of proposals submitted, and it will be no small task to select a winner. It’s also gratifying knowing that so many non-profits and charities were successful in raising funds for their causes through skilled grant writing, and that they recognize the value in sharing their successes and best practices with other charitable organizations.”
Finalists will be announced in late January, and the winner will be announced at the end of February.

Metasoft is Pleased to Announce the Appointment of Morris Price to the Judging Panel of the 2007 World Proposal Championships!
Morris Price, National Program Officer at the Gill Foundation, joins the distinguished panel of experts in proposal writing, who are judging this year’s competition. The Gill Foundation, one of the largest private foundations in the state of Colorado, has given over $57 million in grants since 2000.
The 2007 World Proposal Championships are now well underway, with submissions coming in from across the globe! Any proposal that has secured a grant for a not-for-profit or charitable organization from a foundation, corporation, or government body within the last two years is eligible for entry. The deadline for submissions is December 15, 2007.
